Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use the ALD?

Is the ALD an alarm system?

No. The ALD is not an alarm system and does not replace one. It doesn’t have sensors, it doesn’t detect break-ins on its own, and it can’t arm or protect your home by itself. It works alongside the alarm system you already have – it listens for your siren and adds monitoring on top of it. You need a working alarm for the ALD to do its job.

Yes – this is required. To use the ALD, you must be able to arm your alarm system, and it must sound a siren when armed and triggered. If you know your code and your alarm sirens, you’re all set. If you’ve lost your code or can’t arm the system, the ALD has nothing to listen for, so it won’t work until that’s sorted out.

Three things: you can arm it, it has a siren, and that siren sounds when the alarm is triggered. That’s it. It doesn’t have to be new, connected to any company, or monitored by anyone – it just has to arm and sound. If your system does that, the ALD can work with it.

It depends on the fault. Some faults – like a cellular communication fault – don’t stop you from arming the system, so the ALD will still work fine. Other faults, like a zone fault, may keep the system from arming until you either bypass that zone or have a technician fix it. The simple test is: if you can still arm your system and it still sirens, the ALD works. If a fault is stopping you from arming it, that needs to be resolved first.

Will It Work With My Setup?

I don't know who made my alarm or how old it is. Does that matter?

No. Because the ALD works off the sound of your siren, the brand and age of your system don’t matter. If it still sounds an alarm when it’s armed, the ALD can hear it.

The ALD needs an audible siren to do its job, so it isn’t the right fit for a system that has no siren or only a faint one. If you’re not sure how loud your alarm is, you can “Test” it via the Alarmion app to make sure the ALD hears it.

No. If you cancelled monitoring years ago, that’s exactly who the ALD is built for. You don’t need to reconnect with your old provider, sign anything with them, or turn any service back on. Your alarm already works as a siren – the ALD adds the monitoring on top of it.

No. Your alarm keeps working exactly the way it does today. The ALD doesn’t change it, upgrade it, or take it over. It simply listens for your siren and lets someone know when it goes off.

How It Works

How does the ALD actually work?

You plug it into a wall outlet near your alarm and connect it to your Wi-Fi in the app. From then on, it listens 24/7. When your siren sounds, the ALD hears it, waits a few seconds to confirm it’s real, and sends an alert – to your phone, and on the Professional plan, to our monitoring center too.

It’s built to recognize the specific sound of an alarm siren, not everyday household noise. And it waits a few seconds of steady siren activity before it sends anything, which filters out short, one-off sounds. That confirmation step is how we keep false alarms down.

The ALD is listening for one thing: the sound pattern of an alarm siren. It is not recording your conversations and it is not a smart speaker. It’s a single-purpose device that reacts to your siren and nothing else.

No tools, no drilling, no technician. Take it out of the box, plug it into an outlet near your alarm preferably within 10 feet, and connect it to Wi-Fi in the app. Most people are done in a few minutes.

Alerts, Plans and the Police

What's the difference between the two plans?

On Self-Monitoring ($9.99/mo), the alert comes straight to you by app, text, and email, and you decide what to do – including calling the police yourself. On Professional Monitoring ($14.99/mo), a trained operator at our monitoring center gets the alert too, confirms it, and calls the police for you. It’s the same device either way; the difference is who makes the call.

On the Professional plan, a real, trained operator at a UL-listed certified monitoring center – staffed around the clock. Not an app, not a chatbot, not a neighbor.

Yes. Both plans are month-to-month with no contract, so you can move between them or cancel any time, right from the app.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

What happens if my Wi-Fi or power goes out?

The ALD needs power and Wi-Fi to send an alert, so while either one is down, it can’t send. We tell you this straight because your safety depends on knowing it. Our next version adds a backup battery and its own cellular connection, so it keeps working through a power or internet outage – and if you reserve now, you’ll be first in line for it.

The ALD waits a few seconds to confirm a real siren before it does anything, which cuts out most accidental trips. On the Professional plan, an operator also confirms with you before dispatching, so a false alarm doesn’t turn into an unnecessary police visit.

Yes. If the property has an alarm with a siren, the ALD works there. Each device covers one (1) location. If you’re protecting several properties, you will need one ALD per registered location.

Ordering and Pre-Sale

What am I paying for, and when do I get it?

The pre-sale reserves your ALD device at the launch price – no charge today. You’ll be notified when we go live, and your monthly plan doesn’t start until you have the device in hand and set it up.

No. Never. Both plans are month-to-month. Cancel any time from the app – no cancellation fee, no early termination, no fine print.

The device is a one-time pre-sale price of $49.99 (regularly $69.99). After that, monitoring is $9.99/mo for Self-Monitoring or $14.99/mo for Professional. No installation fee, no activation fee, no contract.

Often, yes. Most insurance companies offer a discount on your homeowner’s policy for having a monitored burglar alarm, and Professional Monitoring qualifies with most carriers. Check with your insurance company for the exact discount – for a lot of customers, it offsets a good part of the monthly cost.

We can monitor your alarm in 38 states, starting in Florida. If your state is on our list, you’re covered at launch. Don’t see your state yet? Leave your email and we’ll let you know the day we reach you.
